Sick Sober and Sorry The New CD.

The Concept.

In the early hours of one morning, in a chalet after a show, we were playing some sad old songs. Someone, we can''t remember if it was Jim Beam or Jack Daniels , pointed out that we couldn't put all of these into a show, but perhaps we should make an album of sad songs.

So the "Depression Hits" project was born.

The first "studio" recording.

Previous Smokey Mountain Boys CDs had been recorded 1940s style with all acoustic instruments around one mic.

Sure that's the way Hank Williams and Hank Snow recorded, but now it's 2008 and we wondered what those "original" Hanks would sound like if they were recorded to-day.

So one afternoon in December we sat down in Steve's living room plugged the guiatrs and a couple of mics into a "Black Box" and started to record.

The new technology enabled Hank to sing harmonies with himself, Steve to play Pedal Steel, Dobro, Guitar, Mandolin and Banjo, sometimes all on the same song. Mike to play bass guitar and rhythm guitar on three songs.

So it's a totally different sound to anything The Smokey Mountain Boys have ever recorded.
